The Bone Folders - Bluestone and Roses
This is a song about the 1850s German pioneering district in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria (Australia) known as "Westgarthtown".
The Ziebell's Farmhouse Museum and Heritage Garden in Thomastown is an historic site that provided inspiration for this song. The old piano in the house was used in this recording.

As a thank you Beck Gave Page a 59 telecaster which later became known as the Dragon Telecaster .

    It's a really cool pedal that sounds awesome. They should have made the JHS mode a second switch though for a solo boost. Too bad this pedal has a loud hiss.

      To be fair, it only has a loud hiss when the attack is on full. As soon as you roll the attack back, the hiss disappears (and the sound of the pedal improves as well). I've been using this pedal live and in recordings since making this video and have had zero noise issues. It's a killer pedal. Thanks for watching though. Cheers!

    Be careful if you put a battery in it. The wires on the battery connector are really thin, and mine just broke right off. I didn’t care that much since I have a power supply, but I figured I should pass the word on to anyone who might hear it.

    Thanks for posting these originals, some of which were poor and deservedly not big hits. I'm glad you focused mostly upon the ones that weren't big hits or which were hits but are not played by oldies channels any more. My favorite British Invasion remake (these are NOT covers) is "Sha La La", a power-pop version of a Shirelles song of much less energy. Sometimes the British bands even had a hit using a B-side. There's an interesting story about how British bands had hits with three recordings Sam Cooke songs, paying tribute to his legacy soon after his death. Mick Jagger bumped into Peter Noone in the studio, and mentioned that the Animals had just recorded "Bring it on home to me" and the Stones were about to record another Sam Cooke song. So Herman's Hermits recorded "Wonderful world".

  • @GeraldM_inNC
    @GeraldM_inNC Місяць тому

    Since you are clearly an expert, you should know better than to perpetuate the egregious use of the word "cover" where "remake" is meant. A "cover" is released soon after the original is released, and is intended either to compete with it directly within the same market or to expose the song to a very different demographic. In the former case the arrangement will be very similar (if not identical) but in the latter there may be major changes, such as making it sound pop instead of country. By law, the composer has the right to approve the first artist to record a new song, but upon its release it is fair game for anyone to record it without permission. The purpose is to capitalize on the original popularity of the song. Sometimes the purpose of a cover is to make better use of a great song that tanked; it had its chance and blew it. During the 30s, 40s and 50s there was a mad rush by artists to get out their own version of a new hit song. (Once the top 5 were all the same song!) Even as late as the 60s there were competing versions. A "remake" is recorded some time (at least a year, often much more) after the original recording had its run for better or for worse; it is not competing with the original. A laudable remake will usually be imaginative, often making radical changes to the tempo, hooks, instrumentation, mood, etc. (Compare Jose Feliciano's "Light my fire" to The Doors' original, for example.) Lazy remakes are usually directed at a new generation or age-group that never heard the original, and the artist doesn't bother trying to freshen it up because it's assumed the buyers have never heard the original. i suppose one could call these lazy remakes "covers" because the arrangement is so close to the original, but it doesn't make sense because it is not competing with the original. Every one of your ten "covers" is a remake, not a cover.

    I think the top 3 fuzz boxes are pretty obviously the big muffs, fuzz face, and tone bender. But the fuzz face isnt very gainy and thin until it goes through an amp on the edge if break up or is maxed out. I feel like a lot of the complaints on this pedal could be addressed that way? Based on other demos i think you have to approach things like an sd9 where most of the tone control is usable only in the first quarter then its too fizzy and bright. But these are a v specific sound. Definitely more of the 60s garage rock variety than the psychedelic or hard rock of the era and later. Keep in mind not all fuzz boxes like clean. Tone benders and fuzz faces most definitely dont. Big muffs and super fuzzes do but im not sure abt these. I think try it with the tone set between the first quarter of the dial and a boost pedal or an od for more.

    • @dmoore0079
      @dmoore0079 15 днів тому

      The main reason why the fuzz face doesn't have much gain is a combination of the design (only 2 transistors), coupled with the fact that the germanium transistors available at the time had quite low Hfe (gain) - especially by today's standards. The Big Muff uses 4 silicon transistors.

    • @Coolbeans1492
      @Coolbeans1492 15 днів тому

      @@dmoore0079 that’s true. But i think one of the charms of the fuzz face is that it somehow maintains a little bit of the natural sound of the guitar. The big muff not as much.
